Greens Welcome Passage of Conversion Practices Ban Bill, Urge Ongoing Support for LGBTIQA+ Community

The SA Greens welcome the Malinauskas Government’s fulfilment of its long-awaited election promise through the passage of legislation to ban conversion practices. This is a significant step forward in addressing the concerns of the South Australian LGBTIQA+ community, who have tirelessly advocated for protection against these harmful practices for years.

Tammy Franks MLC, SA Greens Gender & Sexuality Spokesperson, stated:

Today marks an important milestone for LGBTIQA+ rights in South Australia. The passage of this bill is a testament to the unwavering advocacy of the community that has fought against harmful conversion practices for decades.

We commend the government for delivering on this crucial promise but urge them to take on board the calls from survivors to strengthen these laws.

While passage of today bill banning conversion practices is a vital achievement, our work is far from over. We must ensure that this legislative victory translates into meaningful change in people’s lives and truly ending the harm.
