Greens candidate for Davenport Jody Moate will outline The Greens’ vision for the southern suburbs seat at her by-election campaign launch this evening (Thursday).

Ms Moate says the recent devastating bushfires are a reminder that bushfire protection should be a top priority for local residents and business.

“The Greens have a strong track record of standing up and fighting for our state’s firefighters on issues like cancer compensation for the brave work that they do. We pushed the Weatherill Government to support CFS firefighters who contract cancer and we can push them further on issues of importance for Davenport with a lower house MP elected.

“This issue isn’t about playing the blame game; it’s about the safety of our community. We need more funding to implement bushfire prevention measures.

“We all know the science. We know that climate change means more extreme weather events more often: more droughts, fires and floods across Australia. That’s why action on climate change and greater investment in renewable energy is so important.”

Ms Moate said other important local issues include improving public transport links to Adelaide’s south, and road safety.

Greens MLC Tammy Franks said the Greens were a contender for the seat of Davenport.

“Voters in Davenport have the opportunity to put a Green in the Parliament to represent them and their interests.

“Jody is a fantastic candidate for Davenport, as a climate campaigner and a mother-of-two. She is passionate about the local community, and I know she will work tirelessly for the people of Davenport if elected.”

Jody Moate’s campaign launch will be held at The Artisan Café at Blackwood from 6.30pm on Thursday, January 15.
